About Jenn

Jenn Fredericks is a Resilience Practitioner, Prosilience Coach, speaker, author and founder of In the Thick of Care. She partners with health systems, foundations, nonprofits, and care-centered organizations to support the people who serve caregivers, patients and families through high-stress, high-emotion circumstances. Her work focuses on capacity erosion, the slow drain that happens when people meet ongoing challenge with constant vigilance and too little recovery. Through keynotes, workshops, and caregiver support programs, Jenn helps professionals and family caregivers understand what is draining their physical, mental, emotional, and identity-based energy, then find practical ways to pause, recover, and continue with more steadiness. Jenn brings both professional training and lived experience to this work. She has navigated long-term medical complexity as a patient, caregiving across generations as both a parent and an adult child, and the emotional load of advocating inside healthcare systems. Her approach is grounded, practical, and deeply human. She does not ask people to be stronger. She helps them recognize where their capacity is being depleted and what kind of support would actually help. Her signature keynote and workshop, Sustaining Your Service: Managing Personal Energy in Heart-Based Work, gives professionals a clear framework for understanding capacity erosion and preserving the human energy required to keep caring well.

What are their signature talks?

Jenn Fredericks offers the following signature talks:

  • • "Sustaining Your Service: Managing Personal Energy in Heart-Based Work"

When your work involves constant emotional investment, sustained vigilance, and supporting families through long medical journeys, burnout is not the only risk. Capacity erosion often begins earlier, when professionals are still showing up, still caring deeply, and still getting the work done, but with less access to recovery, steadiness, and themselves. This interactive workshop helps healthcare and heart-based service professionals recognize the early signs of capacity erosion and understand what is draining their physical, mental, emotional, and identity-based energy. Participants learn practical pause strategies they can use in real time, without needing perfect conditions or more time than they actually have.

  • • "Constant Vigilance and the Human Capacity to Care"

Constant vigilance is one of the hidden costs of caregiving and heart-based work. When people are always scanning, anticipating, responding, and holding responsibility for others, their capacity to care can erode long before they recognize it as burnout. This talk helps audiences understand the human cost of sustained vigilance, recognize where capacity is being depleted, and consider what kind of support allows people to keep caring without losing themselves.

  • • All the Women in Me Are Tired: Restoring Capacity Without Abandoning Yourself

Caregivers are expected to hold everything together while managing ongoing uncertainty, complex care, and their own lives. This keynote addresses the gap between what caregivers are expected to do and what they actually have capacity for. What makes this keynote different: Focuses on what caregivers can sustain, not what they’re told to add Centers real-life capacity, not ideal conditions Delivered by someone who has lived both sides of caring Where this work is most effective: Health systems and hospital programs - when caregiver follow-through and consistency directly impact care outcomes Nonprofit and caregiver conferences - when you want to offer something that goes beyond inspiration and actually sustains people after the event Foundations and community initiatives - when caregiver support is a priority, but engagement has been difficult to maintain Employee and workforce settings - when staff are balancing work and caregiving and need support that fits real life When caregivers can sustain themselves, care becomes more consistent and support is more likely to be used.
